'Hello Kitty' to hit Taiwan cell phones
Hong Kong-based Artificial Life, Inc, a leading provider of intelligent agent-based mobile and Internet technology and applications, announced that it has signed a license agreement with Sanrio Taiwan Co Ltd, a local representative of Sanrio Co Ltd of Japan to develop and distribute games and e-learning applications for mobile phones based on the famous Sanrio-branded characters: "Hello Kitty", "My Melody", "Pochacco", "Bad Batz Maru", "Chococat", "Cinamoroll", and "Little Twin Stars", and to launch them in the Taiwan market.
The license contract enables Artificial Life to launch mobile applications in Taiwan, in addition to the already signed-up territories of Hong Kong and Macau; the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and India. The contract covers the usage, downloading and deployment of Sanrio characters in mobile content, Java games, WAP games, and SMS or MMS applications on all mobile phones operating on 2G type networks.
"Hello Kitty and the other Sanrio characters are very popular in Taiwan and many other Asian countries. We will launch a series of mobile games and applications based on these famous characters with a focus on e-learning applications, especially entertaining and easy to use English training mobile games for younger non-native English speakers in Asia. After Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, Taiwan will be the fourth major Asian mobile market in which we operate," said Eberhard Schoeneburg, CEO of Artificial Life, Inc.
Sanrio is a designer and distributor of character-branded stationery, school supplies, gifts and accessories. They are best known for "Hello Kitty" which is their star character and also their corporate symbol.
